In this work, the bodies of the performers cross, act, embody and escape a set of signs, gestures, symbols that constitute a legacy of the construction discourse of the Italian national identity. The bodies of the two women on stage, like constructions layered and nourished by a rhetoric of sign and gesture, inhabit and compare themselves with the system of representation of the nation as a male collective body, and with a rhetoric of the image and speech which, even today, it constitutes a system of representation of women dictated and constructed by male discourse.

In recent years the discourse on national identity and implicitly the male representation of women which is part of it, whose rhetoric has never ceased to be present, has re-emerged in Italy, and not only in Italy. Women are confronted with this discourse, and with its symbolic and representative corollary, which thinks of them, encloses them and makes them exist in iconic roles: decorative element, gregarious, mother, patron saint, invisible ally, support, ready to drag silently the heaviest coffin of the nation.
